  • "Lovely house."

Slightly tatty compared to when we stayed in 2015 though. It feels like a bit more maintenance could be done. Wobbly door handles upstairs, fittings missing from bathroom walls and washing the outside of the windows once in a while wouldn't go a miss!! Also there were lots of cobwebs, and some crumbs and mess in some kitchen cupboards. Didn't take away from a lovely week in our favourite place though.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the property but are sorry to hear that you experienced some cleanliness and maintenance issues, your comments will be raised to our housekeeping and maintenance teams. • "We had a great week at White Horses."

Port Isaac is an archetypal Cornish fishing harbour, has great pubs, magnificent coastline to explore. It is a warm, clean house. Everything worked fine. Took a bit of fiddling to get the Wi-Fi on but after that it was seamless. A previous visitor left good instructions for the hob. It's our second visit at a John Bray property, both were spotless with more than enough towels and a few much appreciated treats. We will return.

  • "The pros: fantastic location, easy parking (a rarity in Port Isaac), lovely bedroom, two loos!"

Small house but perfectly formed. The cons: no lid on the bin in the kitchen, no non-slip mat or soap dish in the shower, too many cobwebs and spiders in the Juliet balcony. However, we must like this place as it is our third visit!

We are pleased you enjoyed White Horses (yet again!) especially the location and parking. We will share the other issues with the owner so these can be rectified. • "We have stayed in White Horses since it has been built."

There has been a couple of owners during this time. We love the location and the property itself but this year it was awful. To start with on the first day the shower tray overflowed into the bathroom which I had noted someone else had complained about before. There were cobwebs under the side tables on the stairs. The small bedroon window area was flaky paint where a job had not been finished. When we were out I decided to buy some mugs from the charity shop because the ones at the property were chipped. The plates need replacing as scratched and look unclean. In general most things need replacing and the carpets cleaning as they have been around too long. We still enjoyed our holiday though and would love to return .

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues. Your comments have been passed on to the team here at John Bray Cornish Holidays. A Bathroom cabinet added to the upstairs toilet would be appreciated. And possibly access to the bins? No key could be found in the property. Otherwise a fabulous stay in Port Issac. P.S Thanks for the Cream Tea welcome pack it was lovely. A Great start to the holiday.

  • "We know Port Issac well, and have stayed in this cottage before, great location, lovely cottage a few minor tweaks and it could be perfect."

When we arrived there was as a maintenance issue (which the cleaners had already reported). However I still had to spend over 2 hours on the phone trying to sort as the local office ignored it. I eventually spoke to someone on the out of hours number who came around within 30 mins. The patio was completely over grown and unusable, a rat was seen one evening too! Gardener arrived a few hours before we left, so this has now been addressed - I note from previous reviews this has been an ongoing issue. The shower does not drain, which means you can’t use it on full power and need to keep stopping the water before the tray floods on to the floor. The local office are useless, do not answer the phone or respond to messages, sadly I will not book through John Bray again.

The network is vodafone and password under the hub next to the TV - which we found eventually. Also not clear what to do with the rubbish - the bin for White Horses in the collection point didn't want to open. Otherwise very comfortable stay.

  • "We are almost never negative about our stays anywhere and have been coming to Port Isaac for many years."

We have also stayed at this property before and have always found it comfortable and pleasant. But this time there were minor niggles, and it wouldn't be fair not to mention them. We arrived a little early and the last surviving member (in terms of employment I understand) of the wonderful local John Bray's team was finishing some maintenance task upstairs. Kath noticed a dearth of wine glasses in the cupboard (no comment on who noticed...) and the gentleman very promptly returned with a new set, which was very kind of him. We missed the Welcome Pack that has always greeted us before. Perhaps someone had just forgotten to place it. The main heating control has been changed and is much simpler to use than the previous one. But there is no instruction in the property to tell guests how to use it. Fortunately, the maintenance gentleman had yet to leave and showed us how to do it before he left - again very kind. It probably doesn't matter, and I certainly didn't touch it, but the wi-fii 'booster' box in the bedroom seems to be indicating - by the colour of its light - that it has yet to be 'paired' with the main box in the lounge. It also took me two days to realise that the bin allocated to White Horses had NOT actually been rivetted shut due to some change of procedure, but was actually locked. I eventually realised that it had a cabinet lock on it, presumably to prevent unauthorised access. These panel locks are fairly standard on coaches, buses and electricity cabinets, and I doubt that neighbouring bins use anything different, so I cannot imagine this system preventing access to a guest from a neighbouring property. Once I realised this was the case, I tracked down the unnoticed key hanging by the front door and knew its function. It would have been a bit quicker if some information was available in the introduction document to the property that pointed a guest towards the key and its purpose. It didn't change things though, because the lock was seized solid, possibly with rust. I was devoid of any of my tools that might have allowed me to apply more force to turn it, so I never got it open. On the other hand I might have broken it, so it was perhaps a blessing that I didn't come as 'tooled-up' as in previous years. I did report the lock problem directly to the Port Isaac office and it was noted down, but the issue was never attended to whilst we were there and I had to use another (unnamed) bin for our general rubbish. I hope it didn't belong to another property and someone had just forgotten to put the name of their property on it. I always felt vaguely guilty every time I visited and continued to use it. The Covid panic caused widespread collateral damage that was unexpected. Too much government-enforced inactive time locked in our houses (cells?), and rather too much beer for many of us too, saw some of us gain unwanted weight. I regret now finding myself in that category and found the shower access (always narrow anyway) has become something of a challenge to negotiate. I doubt if very large people will comfortably get through the narrow gap left by this particular type of shower door. I've fitted shower doors and think there must be a better choice of door somewhere that will afford easier access to this shower - just a suggestion. While I'm on that subject, I've also fitted showers too. The wand-type shower head in use works perfectly well - I fitted something similar in my shower - but mine is meant as a supplementary 'mobile' shower. It acts in addition to the fixed overhead main rainfall shower. I'm sure something like that should really have been fitted here. These wands are usually there as an addition to the main shower head, and to assist with access to one's nooks and crannies... gain, just a thought. Sorry to sound critical. We had a good stay and only left a day early because of the weather. But some things could perhaps be improved a little, we think. Our apologies. John & Kath

  • "White Horses is very convenient for us but it does need some maintenance: The broken tap in the shower room was fixed during our stay."

Thankyou. The fan in the shower room is still not working. The door handle of the 2nd bedroom is hanging off. The light bulb in the main bedroom is very dim. Only one electrical socket to left of the cooker is working. The markings on the front of the cooker are illegible making it a guessing game when using the oven/grill. The underside of the porch over the front door is dirty. Sadly my husband suffered an allergic reaction to something in the house which didn’t happen when we stayed last year. ? The disinfectant that the cleaners sprayed on the sofas and cushions.

  • "A lovely holiday home."

We enjoyed our holiday. White Horses has a lot to offer including the views, enclosed garden (good for dogs) and lots of home comforts. The bedding/towels were excellent. The only areas for improvement are (1) needs a lot more hanging hocks for coats & towels (the upstairs bathroom is particularly lacking) (2)some of the mugs are looking a bit battered (3) - already reported to the agents - upstairs bathroom fan not working, one plug socket near toaster/kettle not working, shower poor drainage/floods (4) as many previous tenants have commented - cooker knobs very hard to use as directions worn out.

Would definitely stay there again. Only had a couple of niggles: 1) The markings have warn off the cooker so it’s a game of chance trying to work out what the settings are. 2) The lack of toilet roll holders and a lack of a shelf in the bathroom to put our toiletries on. As I said these are just minor inconveniences and didn’t spoil our stay in this wonderful property.

The website would not accept payment. We telephoned and we’re helped to pay by a very patient assistant. We would use john Bray again . Port Issac and port Gaverne, places we have been visiting for 30 years, were most disappointing. They were deserted, both pubs were closed and there was nowhere to eat out. The fish mongers was closed and the village completely deserted!! Thank god for the coop store!! We have visited many time in January but will not do so again after this experience.

  • "Bijou but very pleasant accommodation, beautifully situated - easy walk to both Ports Isaac and Gaverne."

Onsite parking, as always, a godsend. Had everything we needed for a lovely holiday, and views over the bay were gorgeous. Couple of suggestions, if we may. The remote for the BT box wasn't working (we'd brought our own Roku stick, so it wasn't an issue for us, but might be for others). And might it be possible to fashion some sort of lock for the bin? We only had one small waste bag to put out at the end of the stay, as we recycled everything, but another property had used the White Horses bin for their own rubbish and it was rammed full. Finally, a storage bin or shelf in the bathrooms would be a big help. Other than these minor points, we would definitely go again and have no hesitation in recommending White Horses and John Bray. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's great to hear that you had such a lovely time at White Horses. Port Isaac is such an idyllic place to stay, we found people so warm and friendly with great places to eat - I think we tried most of them but the one we fell in love with was the school restaurant The food was excellent, the staff looked after us and treated us to Cornish hospitality. Please do not change anything - waiting in anticipation for November so we can book for next year, our countdown begins thank you all so much.

  • "I am sure there is nothing we found in Port Isaac itself that you do not already know about."

However, we really must sing the praises of the Cream Teas available in the Terrace Tearooms in Tintagel Terrace. The proprietors, Bev and Steve, have got so much right from a really hospitable welcome and wonderfully dry sense of humour to the thoughtful way real leaf Tregothnan tea is served and the outstanding quality of the scones themselves. Our other local discovery of note is the Fishernans Friends concert on the Platt. We did not know about these last year and are so glad we managed to catch the last one of the season on the evening we arrived. Truly wonderful entertainment in exactly the correct context. For your visitors travelling further afield, we would particularly recommend both The Shed and Mad Hatters in Wadebridge for coffee, lunch and afternoon teas and also the Harbour Cafe in Boscastle, for more or less the same.
