St Ives Feast

St Ives Feast falls on the first Sunday after February 3rd and commemorates the consecration of the St. Eia in 1434. As with other feasts in Cornwall, these are good days when friends and relatives travel to the town. The Feats Monday is also a lively day with the best known event being the Hurling of the silver ball where the Mayor passes a silver ball from the church wall to the children on the beach and the ball is passed from one to another through the streets in a rugby manner. The person who has the ball at midday gets a prize of 5 shillings.
