Gwennap Pit

Gwennap Parish is situated in the former industrial heartland around Redruth. It is now best known for Gwennap pit which is an outside natural terraced grassy amphitheatre that has become a pilgrimage for Methodists to see where John Wesley preached to the masses during his mission in Cornwall. Gwennap Pit is still used for services with the Whitsun service being the most important. There are 2 stones on the side of the pit known as Wesleys altar, where he preached from.

As you enter into Gwennap Pit, there is a small house and a wall with a few plaques commemorating the teachings and events from its heyday in the early 19th Century.
