St Agnes

St Agnes is typical of many Cornish locations in combining good beaches and a village with character surrounded by remnants of an industrial past that have blended into the idyllic countryside.

The fine beaches are overlooked by disused Engine houses as the Atlantic waves roll in.

The village is built on the side of the St Agnes Beacon, hence it's name and the picture features a delightful terrace known as Stippy Stappy, which is built to compensate for the slope.

The Gweek Seal Sanctuary was originally based here, so look out for the seals in the sea. Blue Peter the children's TV programme raised money for some inshore lifeboats for its beaches.

The St Agnes museum is dedicated to mining, fishing and folklore history of the area. As with much of Cornwall, there are also magnificent cliff top walks in the area looking out Southwards towards Portreath and Northwards towards Perranporth.
